Cannabis and its Environmental Benefits
Cannabis is a relatively hardy crop and requires far less water than many other cash crops like cotton. Also, it grows much faster than the trees used to make paper. By replacing traditional products with cannabis alternatives, many scientists believe we will be able to transition to more sustainable production and consumption. However, one of the most amazing properties of cannabis plants is their ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. While most plants use it as part of photosynthesis (converting it into glucose and oxygen), cannabis works even harder because of its large, lush foliage. Scientists estimate that for every ton of cannabis grown, 1.63 tons of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere. That's more than a similarly sized tree or other plant.
